My Chambers dictionary mentions trestle bridge in the general definition of
trestle, stating that it is a bridge resting on trestlework, which in turn is
described as a braced framework.

Maybe it has become a generic term for railway bridge in (parts of) the USA; I
haven’t heard it used over here, but I’m not a railway enthusiast or an
architect, so what do I know?
