Dear friends,
a new issue of the Italian magazine Orologi Solari is available for
download from the usual site http://www.orologisolari.eu/.

Here is the list of articles together with a short abstract:

1. - "A Meridian Line to free Napoleon: one more detail" by Paolo Albèri
Auber
Thanks to a precise testimony relating to Giovanni Giraud, a
well-known "playwright and banker" who was in contact with Napoleon, it
is demonstrated here that the "Deputy of the Stock Exchange" (Trieste
1819) Francesco Giraud, his brother, collaborated with Gerolamo Bonaparte,
at that time in Trieste, in order to provide the maximum of technology to
the Atlantic mission organized by Gerolamo and, for this precise
purpose, proposed the construction of the Meridian Line at the Stock
Exchange Deputation.

2. - "A conical sundial in Orlando, Florida" by Riccardo Anselmi
The Author describes the large sundial created in Orlando on the
Disney administration building. The sundial is drawn on the internal
surface of a slightly oblique conical tower, approximately 35 meters high.
A hypothesis is formulated about the procedure used by the designer to
track it.

3. - "Two gnomonic apps for Android" by César Busto
The author presents two interesting apps for Android useful for
gnomonics lovers. The first provides 'solar' information relating to the
location and date of use of the App or to the values specified by the user,
which can be exported in different formats for manipulation; the second
allows to document the sundials photographed, adding various useful
information to the photos.

4. - "Pingrè's sundial" by Alessandro Gunella
The author proposes a graphical approach to draw the famous sundial made in
1764 by A.G. Pingrè on the existing column in the Paris grain market. He
considers two possible different arrangements of the orthostyles
planned along the horizon line and suggests in both cases a practical
method for tracing the hour and declination lines.

5. - "From the remains of an old sundial" by Alessandro Gunella
The author proposes a method to recover the parameters of a
sundial, Latitude, Declination of the wall, etc., starting from some
remaining traces. The topic, already described in a previous contribution
with approximate methods, is discussed here again, but with theoretically
correct criteria.

6. - "Captain d’Albertis’ sundials in Valle d’Aosta: situation in 2024 –
Part I" by Andrea Macco
Between 1885 and 1922, Captain Enrico Alberto d’Albertis built 19 sundials
in various locations in Valle d’Aosta. A century later, an
in-depth investigation of these dials has been carried out, integrating the
censuses known up until now. In particular, the author analyzed which
sundials are still present and in what state of conservation they are.

7. - "Pingrè's sundial with Geogebra" by Elsa Stocco
The famous Pingrè’s sundial is rebuilt with the use of Geogebra,
which allows the dynamic generation of the hours lines and the declination
curves relating to the 12 signs. Acting on the variables involved,
Latitude, Radius of the cylinder, Length of the Orthostyles it is possible
to observe how the lines varies.

8. - "Second book of the ASTROLABIUM by Christopher Clavius - 1594 edition"
(Short
contribution) by Alessandro Gunella
The author shares his translation of the second book about the ASTROLABIUM
by Christopher Clavius, after having here presented a summary of the
essential parts of the entire work and the first book in Orologi Solari
n.32 and n.33.

Hope you will enjoy the reading, although in Italian only.

Regards.
Gian
