It looks like the easiest 'fix' is to replace 'to' with 'like to' or 'which compares to'. That the one is to be taken positive, the other negative, is implied: with heaven and hell, few would find that unclear. I read German, and so the extra text example was a big help. And of course, I looked up the wonderful 'Tobacco'-song. I had not heard or seen it before, and quite enjoyed it.
